Although Tjader is leading proceedings here, this 1956 album is odd as it flits magnificently between slower vibes led pieces to faster, heavily percussive songs. Cal leads the melody for the most part but is happy to step back in places, like on the fine sax-led Lover Come Back To Me and Bye Bye Baby. September Song, I Love Paris, Moonlight In Vermont and Blues From Havana all retain a late night smoky feel on what’s a finger clicking piece of ‘50s nostalgia.
