A fantastic 1973 Chess album from Etta James where her bluesy soul vocal tackles three Randy Newman songs among others, including the sassy Leave Your Hat On as well as a glorious rendition of God Song. Produced by Gabriel Mekler who had been responsible for the best of Janis Joplin’s earthy blues sounds, this self-titled opus was dusted off by the archivists at Hip-O Select and is a phenomenally funky album with Etta in full flight giving it full heart and soul.
