The Orb continued their controversial career with this epic set, a natural hybrid of vintage Floyd, ambient Eno and modern electronic exotica, everything that could have been out of place on its release at the height of Britpop in 1995. The album fell on deaf ears in the UK but was lauded Stateside and earned them a huge reputation there. The Orb were once again out there on their own and, as the remixes testify on this extended collection, the mood was Bladerunner in pastoral England, an honest and invigorating experiment from people who were more than happy to stay outside of the mainstream. “There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom who will be remembered and honoured.” reads the picture caption on the sleeve, courtesy of Labour MP Tony Benn. The Orb’s Orbus Terrarum perfectly proving the point.
